Tobe Hooper's devastating, based-on-fact debut hurls its brain-wronged tale of inbred rampage at you in true exploitation style. It's certainly influential, but the most startling thing is that there's still so much in Chainsaw no one's had the guts to imitate.
DVD Extras:
"The more you invest in the characters, the more sense of loss there is once you see them hanging on meat hooks," claims German helmer Marcus Nispel, before revealing that his original cut of the movie included a character-building scene where Erin (Biel) reveals she's pregnant. Sadly, there's no director's cut here, but every inch of trimmed footage can be found among the deleted scenes.Such attention to detail is typical of this high-quality double-disc set.
