Between Be Kind Rewind and The Green Hornet, Michel Gondry stopped to make a bittersweet documentary about his aunt, filming retired teacher suzette as she revisited her old schools.
It’s initially slight, but the titular Thorn is soon exposed: Suzette’s strained relationship with her fragile son.
Typically ramshackle but less whimsical than Gondry’s usual, this tender portrait of painful memories makes for a touching companion piece to Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.
