The Water Horse


The Water Horse appears a damp proposition on paper, another tale of a lonely child whose cutesy animal pal acts as surrogate for absent parent. Couple that with US funding for a Scotland-set WW2 tale and the cringe factor should be off the scale… But this is a quietly involving fable, comparable in tone and charm to novelist Dick King- Smith’s other Hollywood adap, Babe. Featurettes on the impressive Nessie effects complement a fairytale that TF’s resident five-year-old rates “five out of five, Daddy”. He’s wrong, of course – but, y’know, his dad is never around…
