Christopher McQuarrie, writer of The Usual Suspects, fills the director's seat for the first time and deals the crime genre some new surprises. There are no nice guys in his world, as out-of-their-depth duo Ryan Phillippe and Benicio Del Toro kidnap pregnant surrogate mum Juliette Lewis, only to find cold, professional bodyguards and aged bagmen after their blood. Performances, script and surround sound are aces in the pack.
DVD Extras:
Composer Joe Kraemer and McQuarrie gas engagingly on the main commentary, while Kraemer gets a second shot on the score-only track. The soundbite-heavy interviews are frustratingly brief.
