The Wild One

3

Based on true-life biker-brutality events in 1947, this was the movie that confirmed Marlon Brando as a screen god and launched a thousand leather-clad copy-cats. As the first-ever frustrated youth pic, it has importance as a social document, but to today's audience the rebellious talk is laughable and the town lynch mob lacks menace.

DVD Extras:

Actor filmographies, Theatrical trailer, photo gallery, film background.Dated film, poor disc. Of course it's great to have versions in Hebrew, Turkish, Finnish and Icelandic, but the array of linguistic options does not make up for a shoddy trio of filmographies (with nary a word about Mary Murphy's film appearances after 1959) and six muddy stills masquerading as a photo gallery. The trailer, though, is a delight, putting the film into context as a daring moment in the history of the movies.
