Giant radioactive ants threaten to take over the world in the best of the '50s creature features (and Warner Bros' biggest hit of 1954). Smart dialogue, sombre performances and crisp photography ensure that Gordon Douglas' monster mash still stands up, the semi-documentary approach giving the crazy proceedings an air of authenticity. Well, at least until Dick Smith's 15-foot-long model ants, considered exemplary at the time, start waggling their antennae..
