Almost 30 years on, BBC nuke drama Threads remains the most emotionally intense apocalypse ever shot, with IMDb full of viewers still traumatised by its only terrestrial airing – in 1984 at the height of the Cold War.
Far deeper and darker than any equivalent story, it follows a pregnant Karen Meagher as conflict in Iran turns into atomic war on her doorstep.
