Take a swim back in time to Raoul Ruiz’s dauntless riff on the last chunk of Marcel Proust’s multivolume novel À La Recherche Du Temps Perdu.

As a writer lies dying, photos trigger a tumble of memories. The free-associative results might give non-Proustians a headache, but quality casting (a mighty Malkovich, a regal Catherine Deneuve) and Ruiz’s opulent, often surreal direction offer espresso-sharp compensations.
