Luis Mandoki, the director of such sappy fare as Angel Eyes and Message In A Bottle, maintains his low standards with this lurid, nasty and mechanically twist-driven melodrama. Courtney Love and Kevin Bacon play child kidnappers who swipe Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend's daughter (Dakota Fanning), claiming it's their fourth infant abduction. They're a bit crap at it, mind, and that ineptitude is matched by a rather shag-happy sleaziness that contrasts blandly with Theron and Townsend's brains, style and good looks.
Can you spot the difference between the good guys and the bad guys? It's the same gap that divides a competent thriller and a terrible one. No wonder this slipped in and out of cinemas with hardly anyone noticing.
