Romero, Argento, Poe? Ker-ching! Sadly Craven and Carpenter dropped out of this horror anthology, hence the overstretched feel haunting the remaining tales.
While the Harvey Keitel-starring The Black Cat is post-prime Argento offering echoes of his vindictive best, Romero’s M Valdemar (Poe’s only zombie story) is dutiful, if dull.
What could have been a classier Creepshow is a portmanteau of opportunities missed.
Four Evil Eyes? If only.
