Dennis Quaid deserves better than an In The Line Of Fire retread with a jigsaw-puzzle narrative a five-year-old could complete. As a technical exercise – a multi-perspective unspooling of a presidential assassination attempt in Spain – Vantage Point has its merits and – as is clear from the slick extras – it was a bastard to shoot. But strip away the structural ambition and it’s a workaday thriller, with Quaid’s Secret Service vet putting on his concerned scowl and failing to spot the bleedin’ obvious baddie. No grit, wit or tension. But that’s just one point of view…
