“Grief is messy,” muses devastated dad Ian McShane. True enough, but try telling that to the makers of this too-tidy real-lifer about a 1970 plane crash that killed 75 players, staff and fans of a West Virginian college football team. The tragedy is staged without disaster-porn fanfare, but then it’s one heartstring-yank after another amid the soul-baring attempts to rebuild Marshall Uni’s lost squad. Sensitive turns from McShane, David Strathairn and Matthew Fox, but go-getting new coach Matt McConaughey is more irritant than inspiration.
