We Are The Best!

Swedish punk rock teens against school, sports and fascists

Recapturing the spirit of his earlier, cuddlier ones (Together, Show Me Love), Lukas Moodyson’s proves he’s one of the best when it comes to capturing the agony, ecstasy and banality of being young. Set in Stockholm in 1982, WATB follows three girls (winning trio Mira Barkhammar, Mira Grosin, Liv LeMoyne) who attempt to form their own punk band, much to the shock of their conservative community.

Celebrating its trio of outcasts instead of wallowing in their teenybopper melodramas, Moodyson’s film is a zippy crowd-pleaser – even if the girls’ sport-bashing anthem won’t be bothering the charts anytime soon.
