Touting its early-'90s gender revelations like they're hot off the press (newsflash! men need to try and understand women!), Nancy Meyers' muddled comedy of the sexes seems embarrassingly dated already. It flourishes in traditional romance territory, however, where Meyers' '40s comedy stylings sit more comfortably, and Mel Gibson, as chauvinistic ad exec Nick Marshall, thankfully drops the crass mugging of the first 30 minutes to give a charming performance.
