Yojiro Takita lavishly recreates the turmoil of late 19th-century Japan, but the tale of a money-grabbing Samurai (Kiichi Nakai) lacks the simple majesty of Twilight Samurai, wasting its fantastic production design with awkward flashbacks, narrators and multiple plotlines.
