Where's The Money, Ronnie?

3

Shane Meadows starts off small...

“This ain’t fucking London, this isn’t even Nottingham, man. This is Sneinton,” says Jumbo (writer/director Shane Meadows) at the start of Small Time.

He may as well have said “England”, because these shorts are a clear indication of what was to come.

Shot in breathless B&W, Where’s The Money, Ronnie? is a 12-minute Rashomon-style skit offering differing perspectives on a fight.

More fully formed but less fun is the hour-long Small Time, which follows a group of council-estate chancers.

Both films are lively and proudly parochial – engaging if inessential steps on Meadows’ road to greatness.
