Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung - together at last! Actually, chances are you've already caught them starring together, their most recent pairing being this summer's Around The World In 80 Days. But back in 1983, Winners And Sinners marked the first time Asian audiences had seen the pair share a screen.
It's a lightweight example of their work, putting a comedy slant on a bunch of weirdo convicts (including director Hung's portly Teapot) who meet in the clink, form a gang and go on to help Chan's wired cop foil some much nastier counterfeiters. The attempt to blend slapstick comedy and high-paced action doesn't completely work, but it manages to entertain for most of its running time.
DVD Extras:
Hong Kong expert Bey Logan manages to break off from self-congratulatory name-checking just long enough to provide a commentary track laced with plenty of information and background colour. Interviews with Sammo and comic co-star John Shum are fun but short, though outtake fans are well catered for.
