Wise Blood

4

A humourous look at the hypocrisy of the deep south

John Huston’s spare, sardonic movie – adapted from Flannery O’Connor’s novel – takes a wry look at Deep South religion.

Huston himself (a lifelong atheist) plays a bible-bashing preacher with huge relish, while a never-better Brad Dourif is a young man who founds a strange cult of his own.

Funny, tragic, philosophical, farcical – this is Huston near the top of his form. A useful batch of interviews, including one with Dourif.
