Yellow Submarine

5

The paradise that is Pepperland is under attack from the marauding Blue Meanies so it's up to the Fab Four to come to the rescue. Picked up by the eponymous sub, John, Paul, George and Ringo are whisked off on an odyssey which now looks and sounds even better than before.

DVD Extras:

The Mod Odyssey featurette, music-only track, three storyboard sequences (two unused in film), original pencil drawings, behind-the-scenes photos, interviews with crew and vocal talent, commentary track by John Coates (line producer), isolated soundtrack (Dolby Digital 5.1), original theatrical trailer. This weird and wonderful, hallucinatory tale has quite rightly been lauded as a modern cartoon classic. It still retains its ability to mesmerise you with its wit and effortless merging of loopy psychedelia with pop art, all played out to a superb soundtrack. Of the numerous extras, John Coates' commentary track contains some priceless reminiscences, the interviews - - while short - - are fascinating and the trailer and featurette are nostalgic curios in themselves. You can't deny that this digitally renovated edition makes for a fine celebratory package. Have a great trip.
