You Kill Me

John Dahl’s black comedy sees Ben Kingsley’s Buffalo-based Polish-American boozy hitman sent to California to dry out. The Last Seduction this isn’t: the situations are over-contrived, Kingsley’s comic timing is off and there’s zero chemistry between him and acerbic love interest Téa Leoni. Any impact Dahl expected is ill-served by a lack of pace and bite. Still, there are enough cool, noirish lines and quirky moments to hold the attention, while Luke Wilson gives good value as Kingsley’s gay sponsor at the AA meetings he reluctantly attends.
