Young Frankenstein

4

A stylish but silly black-and-white pastiche of just about every '30s Universal horror film, Young Frankenstein is surely Brooks' joint-best parody (along with Blazing Saddles). Packed with the sort of gags and spot-on comedy performances from Wilder, Madeline Kahn and mad-eyed Marty Feldman that'll never exceed their laugh-by date.

DVD Extras:

Mel Brooks commentary, out-takes, deleted scenes, Mexican interviews, Making Frankensense Of Young Frankenstein documentary, trailers. While the Making Of doc notably omits any interviews with Brooks himself (although Wilder admirably fills the info-gap), you at least get him babbling on the audio commentary - and we do mean babbling. Mainly about how great and beautiful Madeline Kahn was, or how Gene Wilder kept cracking up and ruining takes. The deleted scenes are desperately laboured and unfunny, but the Mexican interviews at least make for an entertaining curio.
