Savages review

Film description

Savages is shaping up to be Oliver Stone’s coolest film in years, with one hell of a cast on hand to help Don Winslow’s novel to the screen.

Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) and Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) star as a pair of successful low level drug-dealers, who grow their own weed and steer clear of trouble.

Their cosy little set-up is completed by the presence of the girlfriend they share, Ophelia (Blake Lively, who was cast after Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Wilde passed on the project).

Things start to go wrong when the boys refuse to go into business with Salma Hayek’s Cartel leader, who orders henchman Lado (Benicio del Toro) to kidnap Ophelia, and John Travolta’s dodgy lawman looks like the only means of rescuing her.

A trailer, which plays up the movie’s scuzzy laughs and action thrills, has been released.

Savages opens in the US on 6 July 2012, following in the UK on 28 September 2012.
