Arguably Mike Leigh's most accessible film and certainly one of his best, Secrets & Lies is a powerful, complex and at times highly amusing drama, centering mainly around a young black woman's search for her birth mother. A watertight script from Leigh, and career-best performances from Brenda Blethyn and Marianne Jean-Baptiste make this a must.
