Four years on and the Chatsworth estate feels further than ever from the Garden of Eden. Gone are long-time neighbours Kev and Veronica, replaced by dodgy-dealing hair-trigger thugs the Maguires: a family so dysfunctional they make the Gallaghers look like the Waltons. Things get thornier with the unwelcome arrival of Frank’s (David Threlfall) not-quite-ex-wife, truck-driving lesbian lover in tow… With all the new arrivals, there’s plenty of plot to go round in Paul Abbott’s sweary, soapy comedy-drama. And you still get the glory of Frank’s intoxicated rants. Sadly, it lacks some of the warmth that leavened the caustic laughs of earlier series (also out as part of a complete boxset).
