Star Stories Series 1

Taking a broad, high-camp, am-dram swipe at all-engulfing celebrity culture, Star Stories offers six ‘independent’ celeb portraits. If Heat’s your Bible, this is rank heresy. Okay, so it’s actually rather tame and not hugely original (filching from Stella Street and Pop Profiles), but is still funnier than you may think. Its schtick’s based not on mimicry but exaggeration of our cartoonish perception of slebs. Funniest are the supporting cast: Alex Ferguson as a rotten-toothed cripple with a repressed “artistic” bent; Steven Spielberg as a sycophantic geek and “The Total Bitch” Angelina Jolie as a porn-fixated vampire. More silly than smart, it’s saved by its brevity and squad of up-and-coming talent.
