Star Trek (2009)

UK THEATRICAL RELEASE: May 8th 2009 TOTAL FILM REVIEW
AVG USER RATING  (20 users) | User Comments (14)

To reboot an age-old but dilapidated franchise, JJ Abrams had to please three distinct groups: the hard-core fans (forum dwellers, Klingon speakers, Trekkies/Trekkers/whatever); the general public (“Sci-fi schmi-fi, is it any good?”) and, yes, a studio with dollars in its eyes in search of a bankable franchise (“How broad can this play? Could the sequel be a Spider-Man 2, or even, gulp, a Dark Knight?”).

Absolutely love love loved it. Been a trekkie from birth and although I had my reservations, I love how they've remodelled it and made it so they aren't turning their back on the past but yet creating something new. I loved it. I'll shut up now lol

Its not logical Jim to reboot a old movie just like Star Wars apart from Episode III which was the best overall out of that bunch. All the visuals and Zach Quinto are excellent, the film just falls apart because of its lose narrative and a over the top and pathetic villain(Eric Bana), time paradox, time travel oh I'm so bored already, oh Sulu has a sword fight yeh that's exciting. But seriously this no classic for Star Trek fans, die hard fans or non fans and I can't believe Leonard Nimoy appears in this(I feel sorry for Leonard)glad William Shatner did't get a part in this mess of a film.

when a 60's tv show reboot is admidst the geekworld it's only expected to be overhyped.
This movie is fun and watchable.

Like to say I've never been a Star Trek Fan (only thing I ever saw was the last 10 minutes of that movie with the whale in 1980s America - which was...surreal). I'm really looking forward to finding out what all the fuss is about. Can't wait to see Quinto on the big screen!!!

Do they travel to a planet full of giant squids? I'd like to see that very much.

Well, I can't say that I'm a Trekkie, but I do love the original series. I've never looked foward to a Star Trek movie as much as I am this one. It seems to have everything I like, including a more 'rock and Roll" feel.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Chris Doohan, the son of the late James Doohan (original Scotty). I hope he has a scene with the new Scotty, that would be AWESOME!!!! I actually saw Chris act in a play at the Thousand Oaks Civic Center. He was the best actor in the bunch.

I was a true trekkie for about ten years but have slowly declined away from it in the last 5 or 6 yrs, i watched the trailer 3 times back to back and have now sent my admirals uniform (next gen style) to the dry cleaners, the trekkie in me is back!
