The fourth adventure for the classic crew has always been seen as the Crossover Kid: a Trek movie safe for non-geeks to enjoy. It's easy to see why. As an affectionate nudge at the franchise's foibles, The Voyage Home eschews the previous films' heavy themes and puts light laughs centre stage. Forget the eco-bothering plot nonsense about saving endangered whales. Instead, enjoy a school of 23rd-century fish comically out of water in late '80s San Francisco.
