The Black Cat2

Roger Corman, Bela Lugosi and Stuart Gordon have all tackled Edgar Allan Poe’s shiver-inducing short story over the years, but none of them have squirted quite as much ketchup in the process as spaghetti filmmaker Lucio Fulci. His intermittently gory adaptation makes the most of Patrick Magee’s bushy eyebrows as the old thesp’s murderous moggy kills off the residents of a sleepy English village. Overdosing on feline POV shots and making dubious use of stuffed cats, Fulci completely botches Poe’s dark and ominous rumblings on guilt.
