Evil Dead (2013) is a much anticipated remake of the Sam Raimi classic.
Relative feature newcomer Fede Alvarez is directing and the film is produced by The Evil Dead (1981) horror master Raimi and former star Bruce Campbell. The film looks set to put the frighteners on any audience, with an updated cast and plot.
The original follows a group of students during their spring vacation in the woods, as they unknowingly release terrifying demons after finding a mysterious audiotape. Paving the way for future gore-fests, Raimi created one of the first ever 'video nasties'.
Following in his own footsteps, Raimi revises the story, bringing in fresh writing and directing talent, modernising the film for today's audience. The film stars Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as Mia, Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) as David, Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) as Eric, Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) as Olivia and Elizabeth Blackmore (Burning Man) as Natalie.
The diverse cast of up-and-coming actors are enthusiastic about their roles in the film. Levy has described her role as "the perfect job" as she gets to "be posessed as I destroy my victims", whilst Raimi has stated that "it’s really bloody. It’s so bloody, it will make your head spin. I’ve seen almost all the dailies and they’re really going for it. It’s gonna be grisly and intense and non-stop."
Campbell concurs, "The movie is not funny. [It's] old-fashioned, retro horror."
Evil Dead opens in the UK on 12 April 2013.
