Christian Bale stars in Chinese historical drama film, The Flowers Of War.
Set in the city of Nanjing in 1937, Flowers sees Bale as a mortician turned makeshift-priest, on the run from the invading Japanese forces. Seeking sanctuary, he goes into hiding at a local church along with a group of young schoolgirls and defiant local women.
Directed by Hero’s Zhang Yimou, the film is the most expensive production in China’s history and has been given the honour of becoming the country’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2012 Oscars as well as receiving a nomination in the 2012 Golden Globes for Best Foreign Language Film
The film opened in China on 16 December 2011, and we can now expect a UK release on 3 August 2012.
