Michael Caine excels as Harry Palmer, the sardonic anti-hero immersed in a murky milieu of double-agents, abducted scientists and brainwashing. Director Sidney Furie strips away the glamour from the world of espionage and rustles up effective set-pieces . with Caine proving a handy shot even without his glasses.
