Plot:

Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) is a well renowned oceanographer and documentary film maker.

Though his films have lost their popularity, his most recent effort causes intrigue due to the tragedy they captured on film.

While out at sea Zissou’s best friend, Esteban, was killed by what Zissou named a “Jaguar Shark”.

Zissou declares his next project and documentary will be for the hunt and kill of that very shark.

After this announcement, Zissou is approached by a young man named Ned Plimpton (Owen Wilson) who claims to be his son.

Zissou asks him to come along with his team on their mission to hunt the Jaguar Shark, which Ned accepts.

A British reporter, Jane Winslett-Richardson (Cate Blanchett) also joins the team to write a piece on Zissou for her newspaper, though what she writes and her angle is not exactly what Zissou wants.

While on the hunt for the Jaguar Shark, the team gets sidetracked by pirates who kidnap their accountant.

They go on a mission to find and save their friend but while they do this they find Zissou’s arch nemesis, Alistair Hennessey (Jeff Goldbum) who needs saving too.

More tragedies occur while on the hunt for the shark and Zissou must deal with a wealth of emotions as he meets his greatest foe face to face.
