This freshly uncut ’toon take on Watership Down author Richard Adams’ 1977 novel is a doggy redux of Rescue Dawn. Labrador Rowf and terrier Snitter eight-leg it from a research lab only to find themselves at the mercy of a crueller mistress: Mother Nature. The hand-drawn, watercolour-style animation is harsh but beguiling and there are some keen jabs at animal testing and journo ethics, along with a prescient riff on plague panic. But it doesn’t have Watership’s elevating warmth to offset the brutality. Disc includes a new extended cut.
