A massive hit in its native Australia, The Sapphires is the year’s second ‘60s girl group extravaganza after Whitney Houston’s Sparkle.

Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd plays a talent scout who discovers four talented singers and forms girl group The Sapphires.

Consisting of Gail (Deborah Mailman), Julie (Jessica Mauboy), Kay (Shari Sebbens) and Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), The Sapphires head to Vietnam in 1968 to entertain the troops.

The Sapphires made its debut at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival where it received a standing ovation from the audience.

Meanwhile, critics have dubbed it an Aussie version of Oscar-snatching 2008 Beyonce musical Dreamgirls.
