The Way Way Back

The Way Way Back

The Way, Way Back review

Film description

The Way, Way Back is a bittersweet comedy about a troubled teen coming out of shell.

One summer, Duncan (Liam Jones) strikes up an unlikely friendship with Owen, the manager of a local water park (Sam Rockwell). This new-found friendship soon gives Duncan the confidence to confront his distant mother (Toni Collette) and abusive step-father (Steve Carell).

Nat Faxon and Jim Rash share directing and writing credits, while also appearing as Owen's oddball colleagues.

The last times these two minds came together they produced the magnificent, Oscar-winning script for Alexander Payne's The Descendants. Here's hoping they can recreate the same lightly melancholic magic.

The Way, Way Back will premiere at Sundance 2013. It will be released in the UK in 2013.
