Undercover War

Undercover War review

Film description

It’s 1944 in German-occupied Luxembourg, and 20-year-old François (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet) faces a stark choice.

He can either be conscripted into the Wehrmacht and sent to the eastern Front, or hide underground in a disused mine with fellow draft-dodgers.

Writer/director Nicolas Steil downplays any heroism, concentrating instead on men battling simply to survive.

There’s an implausible romantic subplot above ground, but Leprince-Ringuet’s François makes for a credibly flawed protagonist.

Disc includes interviews with real-life luxembourg resisters.
