Set among '50s New York gangs, this restored print of the Leonard Bernstein-scored spin on Romeo And Juliet is crammed with jaw-droppers, from the fizz of the opening Jets versus Sharks ballet via the crooning of `Maria' to the full-throated belt of `America'. An epic, heady, heart-sweller, it's also packed with great performances. Best of all is Natalie Wood, her Maria evolving from girlish twitters at the start to heartfelt anguish at the end.
